Workshopbeschreibung
-
This workshop introduces results from the DigiTalk-EFL project with AI-supported speaking chats, gamified task formats and results from the DIDA project on inclusive digital learning scenarios for the EFL classroom. It explores how learners can be encouraged to speak English more frequently and more confidently through structured interaction with AI chatbots, game-like missions and virtual communication scenarios.
-
The workshop draws on current projects at the chair Research on Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: Didactics of the English Language. A central focus is the presentation of AI-supported speaking tasks that create additional, low-pressure opportunities for oral language practice. These tasks could be embedded in communicative scenarios such as role plays, problem-solving missions, virtual exchanges and speaking challenges.
-
The workshop also integrates principles about inclusive and neurodiversity-sensitive task design. Participants will learn how digital speaking tasks can be structured to support learners with different attention profiles, language levels and learning needs. Key aspects include clear task goals, short interaction cycles, scaffolding, reduced cognitive overload, choice, feedback and post-task reflection.
-
Participants will be shown selected AI-speaking and gamified task formats, will analyse their didactic potential and learn how they can be adapted for heterogeneous EFL classrooms. The aim is to provide practical, research-informed ideas for using digital learning environments in ways that support communication, motivation, differentiation and responsible technology use.
